Feb 2021 freeze = Mexican Palms, majority dead
Drought summers, salty water rationing 2022-2023 = dead Windmill Palms
My black thumb that follows FL new windmill palm planting direction to the letter
Tons of labor & money later = no palms

ANYONE in Aggieland having ANY luck with replacing palms with freeze-resistant Windmill?
If so, please share HOW?

IMHO and am sticking to it

Do you live on a tropical island? If not, then dont plant palms.

Well, I guess Miracle Grow mix will be the only help I get for now.

I'd try growing something else.

Guess it's best to go ask how-to from those in Brazos Co. growing them in their front yard & around the pool ... Not this forum ....

Good lord. Don't be so damn sensitive. I've never been able to get them to grow either so I made a joke. I understand tone doesn't convey online so I'm sorry if you took it another way.

Haha actually not about you ... I get ribbing on the golf course all the time.
No problems here about all that.
I even tried to post some help for one of your OP help Qs.

Mex. palms 35ft + 15ft and all over town did VERY well until that Feb super freeze and no power to heat their trunks to save. Windmill palms freeze-proof locally but droughts wiped even them out. Can be done, even with this black thumb!

What's afoot is that some forums don't believe some things can survive in Aggieland ...
e.g. neighbors & I got slash pines to grow in a line 4 acres long 80s-2010 - not EZ but fun, impressive, cherry during gray winter months and makes birds happy, good pine cone mulch
e.g. some biz are doing well with even Mex.Palms but mystery still what type prospered in front of the Z apts. (Windmill - no, perhaps California Fan?)

Sometimes frustrating to read very detailed solutions to rare problems then simple problems become ghosts on here.

I'll get to some answers to share with others (ala those pines, if asked) later. The palms recall happy times raising kids and fewer medical problems, certainly vacation carefree getaways. At least the Sabals are prospering, even if too small to make a great impression!

Thanks for the clarification.

Sabal Palms - & not the minor/dwarf variety, obviously - is The Answer I finally got from a pro.

Sabal palmetto grows up to 20 m (80 ft) tall

Looking for the same to replace the ones that froze near my pool.
I can't have a tree that grows that tall. I wouldn't be able to trim it.

I am planning on going with windmill palms. They are cold hardy, slower growing and won't peak out so tall.

That's me as well.
Windmills good until summer drought & only salty hose water on odd days for salvation.
Soooo into pot we will go until the water crises get solved with these new wells, as per The News.

Summer drought old + new in pots:

You may need bigger ones which would mean special order in Aggieland ...

Texas sabal palms are native and cold hearty.

You'll be 120 before they get that tall

Maybe, but they will be taller and wider than I want in 5-7 years.

I just took two down. I don't want to go thru that again, if possible.

Yeah, I have lost 9 of 11 palms (Mexican fan palms and canary island date palms) since the freeze in 2021.

I haven't replaced them.

UGH same in Aggieland, even if pro planted
+ my Land.arch son has to supply a Tex.Mex chain with Mex.Palm look-alikes for their new digs in Oklahoma!?!?!
So far, he's thinking Windmill, advising them if only Mex.palms then plans to spend a ton o money every year or so ... dig & replacing
IMHO and am sticking to it
