We struggled with transportation for our elderly mom after we took her car away.
She was still somewhat independent living by herself but needed help with things like transportation, etc.

We were able to schedule a caregiver to swing by and spend time with mom. Drive her to grocery store... Take her to get her hair done.... dentist.... errands she would previously do in her car. Caregiver would sometimes go with her in the store - or wait in the car if that's what mom wanted.

Was nice not to worry about mom driving - and the expense for the service was not that unreasonable considering the cost of a car/insurance/registration/gas/etc...
They also help her around the house before we had to move mom to assisted living.
