Track & Field Report: Coach Pat Henry recaps SEC Championships

Texas A&M men's and women's track & field teams claimed 10 medals over the weekend at the SEC Championships in Gainesville. Head coach Pat Henry joined Wednesday's edition of TexAgs Radio to speak on the postseason on the track.

Key notes from Pat Henry interview

  • Our people competed at as high a level as we have. There are so many events that, at the end of the contest, something can be good or not as good.

  • The SEC Championships beat you up so much that you worry about moving forward. That was an opportunity to beat everyone else in the conference. It's about winning this thing, and that’s what makes it fun.

  • On the men’s side, it came down to three and four points. We got beat in the 4x400-meter relay. Had we won, it would have made a difference. We can win that race, but we did not do it on that day.

  • Sam Whitmarsh is doing a great job. He is consistent, tough and healthy. You couldn't ask for a better situation with Sam.

  • Lianna Davidson won it on her last throw. Heather Abadie is very consistent. She has to clear the next bar to be successful at the NCAA Championships.

  • There was question whether Victor Kibeigo would run. He had missed training sessions, but he wanted to contribute. He ran fast and hard enough to win it.

  • Eric Casarsez was warming up with three other guys, and I told them they were the ones that make a difference. Eric is our new school record holder in the 5K.

  • This is a very competitive group. We have an opportunity, and we have to take advantage. That starts next week.
